December 16, 2009

(Mission, TX) Mission Regional Medical Center presented a pink check in the amount of $8,000 to Adriana M. Higgins, Ed. D., Executive Director, Houston Affiliate of Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Cure.

The donation represents 25% of the $32,000 raised at the First Annual Mission PINK/ Walk/Run held October 17 at Mission Regional Medical Center. More than 1000 people turned out for the 5-K event that advanced the importance of awareness and early detection of breast cancer.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the world's largest breast cancer advocacy organization fighting to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cure.

The Breast Care Center at Mission Regional Medical Center will use the remaining funds for future upgrade possibilities in Mammography, Ultrasound and or Sterotactic biopsy systems as main instruments in Women's Imaging.

Studies show that one out of every eight women born today will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some time in their lives, according to the National Cancer Institute.
