Quadruplets Born at Mission Regional Medical Center
Quadruplets Jesus, Adrian, Fabian, and Ignacio were delivered just minutes after 8 am Tuesday March 25 at Mission Regional Medical Center to Mission couple Jesus and Ester Ramirez.
After years of trying to start a family, Ester and Jesus finally got their wish- four fold. “I am very excited about my babies and grateful that I have been blessed with the gift of motherhood,” said Mrs. Ramirez.
This is a very big medical event," commented Jeselle Mathews, OB/GYN. "Quadruplets don’t arrive everyday.” Statistically, there are only 500 sets of quadruplets born every year in the United States.
"It was a lot of fun to be involved," said Dr. Mathews, the obstetrician who delivered the quadruplets by caesarean section. "I’ve delivered many babies, entire families in fact, over the course of a patients’ lifetime, but this is the first time I deliver four babies all at once from one patient. This delivery is special.”
The babies were delivered by caesarian after 32 weeks gestation, and their condition is listed as good.
The babies' names and weights are: Jesus, 3 pounds 7 ounces, Adrian, 3 pounds 6 ounces, Fabian 3 pounds 4 ounces, and Ignacio 2 pounds 10 ounces.
According to the Center for Health Statistics, Texas Department of State Health Services, there were 2 sets of quadruplets (i.e., 8 babies) born in McAllen in the year 2000. There was 1 set of quadruplets (i.e., 4 babies) born in Brownsville in the year 2002. There were no quadruplets born in Hidalgo, Star, Cameron, and Willacy counties in 2001, 2003, and 2004.
Specialists will monitor the boys in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Mission Regional Medical Center for the next weeks. But doctors said that so far, they expect the four babies to be fine.
Several local organizations and businesses have donated gifts and supplies to the couple. Those organizations include: Babies R US, Walmart, Mission
