The Laboratory at Mission Regional Medical Center offers a comprehensive range of laboratory tests to support physician offices, hospitals and other healthcare providers. We are equipped with the most modern equipment in the Rio Grande Valley.

The department is staffed 24-hours a day, 365 days a year, to complement all in-house medical needs. Tests are carried out with a physician’s order.

On average, our department performs about 250,000 individual tests and approximately 20,000 blood draws each year. We utilize an advanced, wireless hand-held device for barcode identification to assure patient identification accuracy and tracking specimens.

A complete blood bank transfusion service is also available with blood and blood products provided by United Blood Services. Patients who will need blood because of certain types of surgery may use their own blood. if the situation warrants or evaluated by their physician.

Common lab studies include:

• Chemistry profiles to screen for specific disease processes;
• Special chemistry profiles to screen for certain Cancers markers, Heart attacks, CHF and thyroid problems;
• Complete bacteriology services to rule out infections;
• Screening test for Streptococcus infections, Flu, Mono, RSV, and pregnancy;
• Drug and Alcohol testing.
