Mission / Weslaco / Harlingen, Texas / April 2026 – Longtime Valley physician Dr. Padmini Bhadriraju has once again been named a “Chief Medical Officer to Know” by a national publication, Becker’s Hospital Review.
This is the third time in a row that Dr. Bhadriraju has received the national recognition. In addition, Dr. Bhadriraju has received many other honors, including an “Outstanding Leader Award” from the India Association of the Rio Grande Valley.
An internal medicine physician and hospitalist, Dr. Bhadriraju serves as Chief Medical Officer for Prime Healthcare hospitals in the Valley, including Mission Regional Medical Center, Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco, and Harlingen Medical Center.
Becker’s Healthcare stated that “exceptional chief medical officers” such as Dr. Bhadriraju serve as “champions of clinical excellence and continuous improvement” and that their leadership “has helped their organizations achieve distinguished quality and safety recognitions.”
“These physician executives are instrumental in elevating patient safety, upholding rigorous quality standards, strengthening collaboration between executive leadership and medical staff, and guiding risk management efforts,” Becker’s Healthcare added on its website.
The publication noted that Dr. Bhadriraju has helped strengthen management of chronic diseases in the Valley — both in her role of providing administrative oversight as chief medical officer — and as a hospitalist and primary care physician providing direct patient care.
“She leads quality, safety and physician engagement efforts across facilities that serve one of the nation’s lowest socioeconomic regions, where diabetes and heart disease significantly impact population health,” Becker’s Hospital Review stated.
“Under her leadership, all three hospitals earned ‘A’ Leapfrog hospital safety grades in fall 2025, with Mission Regional achieving 11 consecutive ‘A’ grades since 2020, Harlingen Medical earning nine consecutive ‘A’ grades since 2021 and Knapp demonstrating sustained high performance since 2022,” Becker’s added.
“Her hospitals have received national recognition, including distinction as one of the Women’s Choice Award ‘Best Hospitals’, Lown Institute ‘A’ grades for social responsibility, multiple Healthgrades 5-star distinctions and American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines honors,” the publication added.
In addition, all three of the hospitals that Dr. Bhadriraju oversees were recently recognized as a “Forbes Top Hospitals 2026” for high patient outcomes — with Harlingen Medical Center and Knapp Medical Center
receiving 5-Star recognition — and Mission Regional receiving 4-Star recognition from Forbes magazine.
In addition to her executive leadership with the award-winning Prime hospitals, Dr. Bhadriraju also serves as director of the Catalyst Medical Group — as well as a clinical assistant professor at the University of Texas
Medical Branch at Galveston.
Board-certified in internal medicine, Dr. Bhadriraju completed an internship and medical school at Andhra Medical College and King George Hospital in Visakhapatnam, India, prior to completing a Residency in Internal
Medicine at McLaren Regional Medical Center in Flint, Michigan.
In addition, Dr. Bhadriraju served those in need as a relieving physician at a United Nations Development Program Clinic in Ghana, West Africa … and as a volunteer physician at the Genesee County Free Clinic in Flint, Michigan.
