Mission Regional Medical Center (MRMC), in close collaboration with The Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce, is gearing up for the upcoming Annual Community Health Fair at Sharyland High School Gymnasium. The event is scheduled for Sunday, January 13, 2013, from 8 am to 11 am. It is free and open to the public.

This is the 18th consecutive year that Mission Regional Medical Center participates in this event. “As a community-based, non-profit hospital, MRMC places great value on the health of those we serve,” said Evelyn Sáenz, Marketing Coordinator for Mission Regional Medical Center. “We want all the community to take advantage of this great opportunity to get a free check-up on their health.”

Free screenings at the Health Fair include: cholesterol, blood pressure, vision, body mass index, and much more. The Laboratory team from Mission Regional Medical Center will be providing master blood tests to the first 500 people. The master blood screening includes:

  • Complete Blood Count (Anemia)
  • Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (Diabetes, liver & kidney function)
  • Lipid Profile (Total Cholesterol, HDL & LDL)
  • Thyroid Function (TSH)
  • Prostate cancer screening (PSA) for males age 40 and over

Each master blood screening has an approximate value of $1,000. An 8-12 hour fast is recommended.

“Health and wellness information will be available from many other organizations from the Mission area,” stated Matt Ruszczak, Program Director for The Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce. “It is an event beneficial for the entire family.”
