Hospital is nationally recognized by the Leapfrog Group

Mission, Texas / Nov. 2025– Mission Regional Medical Center has received its11th straight “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, for the fall of 2025.  This national distinction recognizes Mission Regional as being among the top hospitals in the nation in protecting patients from preventable harm and errors.

The latest award means that Mission Regional has received “straight A’s” for patient safety for five and a half years in a row.

Mission Regional Medical Center, a member of the Prime Healthcare Foundation, is the only hospital in Hidalgo County which has consistently received the “A” grade for patient safety over the past five years.

“We are honored to have earned a grade A on Leapfrog’s Hospital Safety Score 11 times in a row,” said Kane Dawson, CEO of Mission Regional Medical Center. “Quality care matters. By choosing our hospital, you can ensure that you receive the high-quality outcomes you rightly deserve.”

The Leapfrog Group, a non-profit, independent national organization, assigns a grade of “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” to general hospitals across the country–using evidence-based measures of patient safety which are focused on preventing errors, accidents, injuries and infections.

“Earning an ‘A’ Grade means Mission Regional Medical Center made a true commitment to put patient safety first,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We congratulate the leadership, board, clinicians, staff and volunteers that all had a role to play in this achievement.”

Dr. Padmini Bhadriraju, Chief Medical Officer for Prime Healthcare hospitals in the Rio Grande Valley, including Mission Regional, expressed thanks to “every single individual working in our healthcare system who made these awards possible.”

“What it means for you and your family is that when you come into our doors, we provide you with excellent care, a very safe environment for the patient, and excellence in every service we provide,” Dr. Bhadriraju added.

Cesar Guerra, RN, Chief Nursing Officer for Mission Regional Medical Center, said the hospital’s multiple awards for patient safety are a testament to the work of physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals who are dedicated to providing “the highest-quality healthcare to residents of the Rio Grande Valley – every patient, every time.”

Mission Regional’s sister hospitals in Prime Healthcare, Knapp Medical Center and Harlingen Medical Center, also received an “A” grade.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries, which kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. The Leapfrog program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
