Volunteers fill many roles at Mission Regional Medical Center. They escort guests, deliver flowers and mail, help behind the counter at the gift shop- all roles that are vital to providing a pleasant experience at Mission Regional Medical Center. But the volunteers don’t just donate their time to make the hospital a better place to be. That was demonstrated April 8th when the hospital’s auxiliary donated $65,000 to Mission Regional Medical Center.
Mission Regional Medical Center Auxiliary Board President James E. Burnet presented the donation to Javier Iruegas, CEO, Mission Regional Medical Center. The check presentation was made during the Annual Auxiliary Board Installation meeting at The Club at Cimarron. This donation, which represents the proceeds from the Auxiliary’s 2013-2014 fundraising efforts and gift shop proceeds, will be designated for various service lines.
This year our Auxiliary members provided approximately 29,000 hours of onsite volunteer service to MRMC. Information provided by the Texas Association of Hospital Auxiliaries indicates that each volunteer hour is worth $22.55 to its recipient institution. Based on that hourly figure, on-site volunteers provide in excess of $653,950 of volunteer assistance to the hospital annually! They volunteered in various departments providing services to patients and support to hospital staff.

Whether it’s putting a smile on a patient’s face, saying a friendly hello to a visitor or supporting the needs of our staff volunteers do make a difference here at Mission Regional Medical Center. I am delighted to work with such a devoted and compassionate group of individuals. Their hard work is greatly appreciated,” said Lilliam Santana-Barrera, Director of Volunteer Services.
