“Mission Pink 5K” at Mission Regional Medical Center Raises Funds for Mammograms for Needy Valley Women

Mission, TX (October 2025) – More than 1,500 people of all ages walked or ran for breast cancer awareness at Mission Regional Medical Center on Oct. 11.

The 16th Annual Mission Pink 5K Walk/Run for Breast Cancer Awareness raised funds for life-saving mammograms for uninsured Valley women at the non-profit hospital in Mission.

The event also shattered expectations for attendance: in addition to 1,500 walkers and runners, there were also more than 1,000 volunteers, sponsors and vendors at the event, as well as dozens of breast cancer survivors, family members, children and pets.

“So many people came together to make Mission Pink a very special experience for our community – including patients, cancer survivors, children, sponsors, volunteers, race participants, spectators, elected officials, cheerleaders and drill team members,” said Priscilla Duran, Business Development & Marketing Manager for Mission Regional Medical Center.

“There was a very beautiful invocation with Dr. Milton Gonzalez … along with Zumba with Claudia of la Voz de Millón — who got the walkers and runners warmed up and ready to go for the big event,” Ms. Duran added.

“You could see a sea of pink moving throughout the route,” Ms. Duran added. “Everyone came together to support the same cause, of breast cancer awareness. People were running in memory of their loved ones who passed away — or to support those who are currently fighting against cancer.”

Kane Dawson, CEO of Mission Regional Medical Center, thanked H.E.B. – which once again served as Title Sponsor for the event – for their tremendous support for women in the Valley.

“H-E-B has proudly stood with us as our largest sponsor every single year, showing unwavering dedication to the fight against breast cancer,” Mr. Dawson
added. “H-E-B’s continued support is making a real difference in the lives of women across the Rio Grande Valley.”

Mr. Dawson and Cesar Guerra, Chief Nursing Officer for Mission Regional, also thanked the City of Mission for serving as the Pink Diamond Sponsor for Mission Pink… as well as the Mission Consolidated Independent School District, iHeartRadio, and Lamar Advertising, which served as Ruby Sponsors — and all the other sponsors who made the event so special for the women of the Valley.

“We are greatly appreciative of our very generous sponsors – as well as to all of the participants who helped make this a very successful event which will benefit needy women in our community,” Mr. Guerra said. “Health awareness is a team sport — and we are very fortunate to have so many great community partners who support this very worthy cause.”

“We are deeply grateful to the City of Mission for their incredible support of Mission Pink year after year,” said Kathleen Avila, Regional Business Development Director for Prime Healthcare in the Rio Grande Valley. “The City consistently goes above and beyond to make this event a success for our community, and their partnership truly helps us make a difference.”

“With the event selling out the past two years, we’re excited to explore new partnerships and creative ways to grow Mission Pink even further — so that we can reach and support even more women here in the Rio Grande Valley,” Ms. Avila added.
