Patient Education
Mission Regional Medical Center is the only hospital in the Rio Grande Valley with a unique and comprehensive preoperative education class for our primary Total Hip Replacement (THR) and Total Knee Replacement (TKR) surgery candidates.
Your journey at our Joint Replacement Institute (JRI) begins with a preoperative patient education class approximately 2 weeks before your THR or TKR surgery. The class includes instructions on preparing for surgery, what to expect during your hospital stay with us and discharge planning. A case manager will speak to you about what to expect after surgery, possible equipment needs and assist in making arrangements for a pleasant and safe discharge home or individualized arrangements if needed.
For further information, contact us at 956-323-9021.
The class also includes physical and occupational therapy exercise instructions for you to perform before and after surgery. This ensures a speedy and healthy recovery.
Our patient registration department is also involved in the class to help register you for any pending pre-op work-up, such as lab testing, special preventative screenings tests, chest x-ray, electrocardiogram and /or register you for surgery in advance. This all helps minimize any delays for your surgery.
Your surgeon will sign you up for the pre-op class.
