Wal-Mart Store #3320 in Palmhurst is once again one of the top sponsors for the 4th Annual Mission Walk/Run for Breast Cancer Awareness. This is the second consecutive year that this store supports the “pink” event hosted by Mission Regional Medical Center. The check was presented to hospital representatives during the store’s grand re-opening earlier this year.

“We recognize the extraordinary commitment of the Wal-Mart Palmhurst Store. Their generous contribution is always appreciated and essential to the success of Mission Pink,” says Javier Iruegas, CEO of Mission Regional Medical Center. “We are glad for the opportunity to work with organizations dedicated to their community.”

The Mission Pink Walk/Run for Breast Cancer Awareness is the first event of its kind in Hidalgo County. Since the first walk in 2009, participation has increased from 1,500 to the projected 2,300 attendees for this year’s event. “We are continuously amazed at the tremendous support from the community and organizations such as Wal-Mart. Our participants feel so strongly about the cause. It is uplifting to know we are making a difference in people’s lives,” says Evelyn Sáenz, coordinator for Mission Pink.

Joe Torres, Store Manager for Palmhurst Store #3320 stated, “We are proud to support Mission Regional Medical Center in their cause to raise breast cancer awareness. We strive to support initiatives that will improve the health of the community that we work and live in and the Mission Pink Walk and hospital staff do just that.”

The Mission Pink Walk/Run for Breast Cancer Awareness will take place on Saturday, October 6th at Mission Regional Medical Center. Registration will begin at 6:30 am that morning. Those interested in registering early can do so at the upcoming Registration Fair on September 22nd, from 9 am to 1 pm at the hospital.
