The Mission Police Department and Mission Regional Medical Center are holding a child passenger safety seat inspection event from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, September 15th at Mission Regional Medical Center.

This service is being provided to educate parents and caregivers how to properly install and use their child safety seats.

Research shows that an estimated 30 percent of children continue to ride unrestrained, and 80 percent of all child safety seats are used incorrectly. More than 1,700 children have been saved since 1996 just because they were riding in a properly fitted car seat and in the back seat.

A 2011 study conducted by the Texas Transportation Institute (TTI) found that child restraint usage was 89.5 percent. The study also found that child restraint use varied throughout the state, with highest usage in Austin to extremely low usage in Brownsville, Texas.

Inspections will be conducted on the parking lot of the Doctors Plaza West building at Mission Regional Medical Center. For more information or to make an appointment, contact Diana Macias, Mission Police Department, at 956-222-5615 or Mission Regional Medical Center at 956-323-1150.
