(Mission, TX) The Rotary Club of Mission recently awarded a $5,000 grant to The Foundation at Mission Regional Medical Center for the purchase of a mobile scale for use in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Expanded in 2007, the NICU at MRMC now contains 20 tiny beds and provides state-of-the-art care to fragile, premature and ill infants.
“Rotary Club has a long-standing tradition of supporting initiatives that improve the health of children and communities, from our worldwide polio eradication campaign to clean drinking water and disaster relief,” states Aida Lerma, president of Rotary Club of Mission. “In this case, we are able to improve the care available to the most vulnerable members of our community by giving the nurses at Mission Regional Medical Center an important piece of equipment for daily use in the NICU.”
“We are grateful for this grant from Rotary Club,” states Marianna Treviño Wright, director of The Foundation. “The mobile scale is a sensitive piece of equipment used to monitor the nutritional intake and waste output of tiny babies, some of whom weigh less than a bottle of water from the vending machine. Not only will the mobile scale enable us to take highly accurate measurements, it will also facilitate bedside care for our youngest patients, in an environment where convenience counts!”
